How You Can Help
The research directly supported by the Babes In Arms at Northwick Park appeal could not happen without your help.
There are many ways you can support the appeal, from direct donations and gifts or perhaps by attending specific events.
If you work for a company, there may be sponsorship opportunities which could be considered. In this case, please contact the charity direct at the contact details.
We urgently need your help to support our work in the following:
- Support ground breaking medical research at NPIMR into pregnancy including miscarriages and the transmission of HIV from mother to child.
- Continue to explore specific growth factors to determine the possible effects of changes in blood vessel development in SIDS placentae.
- Continue studies on placentae from women with babies born intra uterine growth restricted (IUGR) and who themselves suffered from pre-eclampsia during their pregnancy.
- Explore opportunities for collaborative research between the NPIMR SIDS research unit the NW London Hospitals NHS Trust Dept of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, since the recent (2007) bilateral agreement to pool resources and collaborate on clinical research projects.
- Further study the implications of the recent discovery made by the NIMR SIDS research unit that placentae from pre-eclamptic mothers fall into two categories and explore how this might be linked to later clinical problems both for the baby and the mother.
- Continue investigating what changes in placental development are responsible for initiating the maternal symptoms of pre-eclampsia.
As well as the above existing projects, your support will help us expand our team and explore exciting new areas, such as:
- An in-depth study of the interaction between placental development and the health of both the mother and the unborn baby.
- Adapting scientific discoveries made in the laboratory to improve clinical practices for patients.
- Explore new avenues in our fight to prevent cot death and IUGR and to alleviate the clinical and psychological impact of pre-eclampsia.
- To build on our international reputation for scientific research and establish NPIMR as an internationally recognised centre of excellence for cot death and pre-eclampsia clinical research.
In return for your help you will receive newsletters by email with updates on the aid and research being done by Babes in Arms as well as direct messages from women and children who have benefited from your generosity.
