Babes in Arms
Babes in Arms at Northwick Park is carrying on the work which I started with the Babes in Arms charity in 1991 following the death of my daughter to cot death. Northwick Park Institute for Medical Research was one of the Institutions supported by Babes in Arms and now they have established a separate, different charity and I have agreed to help them raise some funds for their broader research portfolio including cot death, intra-uterine growth retardation, pre-eclampsia and neonatal disorder such as premature birth and miscarriages. Their work is vital in ensuring we give the best possible chance to our babies and children.
I do so hope you will be able to support our appeal. Cot death is still claiming the lives of over 300 babies every year – babies like my daughter Annabel, who is missed every day – still with the question ‘why?’ It seems so strange to not know why such a beautiful, seemingly healthy, baby should go to sleep and not wake up – not to join a brother who was waiting to play with her and parents who adored her.
IUGR, pre-eclampsia and developmental problems caused by premature birth are prevalent and not enough is known on either condition. Unfortunately, miscarriage is also still very common and we hope to contribute to better understand this and develop ways to give both mother and baby the best chance in life. The work Northwick Park are carrying out is vital in helping answer the questions posed above and, more importantly, stopping these questions ever entering the heads of other parents.
Thank you for your support,
Grace Tye
